LED Lighting Upgrades That Actually Change How Your Home Feels

The right lighting design does more for how your home feels than any other renovation dollar. Here is what a proper LED upgrade looks like.

Layered light beats brighter light

Most Vancouver homes were built with a single fixture in the middle of every ceiling. That is the reason your kitchen has a shadow on the counter and your living room feels flat at night. Good lighting design uses three layers - ambient (general fill), task (over counters, desks, and reading zones), and accent (art, plants, architecture).

Once the layers are in place, dimmers on every zone let one room do brunch, movie night, and dinner party without ever changing a bulb.

Recessed pot lights done right

Recessed LED downlights are only as good as their spacing, colour temperature, beam angle, and dimmer pairing. We spec 2700K to 3000K warm-white LEDs, IC-rated airtight housings for insulated ceilings, and dimmers matched to the driver so there is no flicker or humming at low levels.

In Vancouver, Burnaby, and Richmond homes with vaulted ceilings, we use sloped-ceiling trims so the beam hits the floor evenly instead of splashing forward.

Smart lighting without the tech-support headaches

Smart lighting is worth doing when it disappears into the wall - proper Lutron Caseta or RA3 keypads, motion sensors in hallways and closets, and scene control at the door of every main room. It is not worth doing if it depends on an app to turn the lights on.

We design smart lighting to work like regular lighting first, and only layer scenes and automations once the manual controls are perfect.

What a lighting upgrade actually costs

Retrofit LED pot lights in an existing insulated ceiling run per-fixture pricing plus the switch and dimmer work. A full main-floor relight in a typical Metro Vancouver home is usually completed in two to three days, patched, and ready for paint touch-up on the same visit.
